Top of mind
Things that are bouncing around in my head as I synthesize a range of ideas
I’m dispensing with most of my regular sections in this issue of Model Thinking, in favor of a quick update on my first two weeks after my big announcement. I’ll get more substance in my next issue!
Truth is, I’ve been on the road much of the last two weeks. I made a 17-hour drive to be part of the funeral of an uncle, taking a couple days and nights for sightseeing on the trip back. It was a special time catching up with friends and loved ones—and a few adventures along the way.
Yesterday, I attended the Boye & Company CMS Experts meeting here in Austin in the offices of Contentstack, getting to know some great people and giving a short presentation about roles in the content field while asking “who is the CMS user?” (I’m thinking about if and how this should become a newsletter topic. 🤔) The other presentations were eye-opening and thought-provoking with great discussion, and it was a wonderful way to spend a rainy spring afternoon deep in the heart of Texas.
This is my truck earlier this week at the spot I intended to “wild camp” on the border of Texas and Louisiana on my way back from visiting family. However, a few minutes after taking this photo and some drone images and video, I discovered an unattended campfire that had spread into the surrounding forest. As I called 911, I used a mostly-functional bucket I found nearby to scoop water out of the lake and deal with the most threatening fire until the volunteer firefighters arrived. By that time it was dark, and I thought it wise to move to an official campground a few minutes away. Only have campfires in an established fire ring when there’s not a burn ban in effect, and ALWAYS make sure your fire is fully extinguished before you leave.
